Important

You Are Important

This is a message I sent to the launch team for the new church I am planting, Discover Family Church. I hope that it speaks to all of you, and where you are at with whatever church you are attending right now. You are important.

Hello friends. Wanted to send you a quick note. We are getting closer and closer to the start of this life-giving church, and I wanted to encourage you. I was talking with my dad earlier, and he shared a word that Paul wrote in Romans 16. It is the end of the book of Romans, and Paul has finished what he considered to be the teaching time, and is giving his personal ending to the letter.

But in this “personal ending”, he teaches us something so important to where we are in this journey. He starts by asking the Roman church to accept Phoebe. She was a deacon, leader, and someone who trained under Paul. Then he goes on to talk about another 25 people that he wanted the church to welcome. He wanted the church to see that, while he may be a leader, it wasn’t about him.

He encouraged each of these Christians to take part. Give with all their time, money, love, and energy into the church. I talked about this at Easter. We are not a church that has been born yet. We have been conceived….but God has huge plans for not just me, and not just DFC, but for you too.

In Acts chapter 2 we see the beginning of the first church. They had not yet been born, but merely conceived. When I read that chapter today, I was so excited because I see what they were doing, and how much it parallels what we are doing right now as well.

Acts 2:42-47 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

So remember today, YOU are not just a person that goes to DFC….you are an part of the body of this church. A part that is more important than you could ever imagine. You may have never heard of Urbanus, Phoebe, or Apelles before…..but they were important enough to the church for Paul to point out their worth. I wanted to point out your worth today.

Keep breaking bread with each other. Keep giving you money, energy and time. Keep reaching out to our friends and inviting them to our Interest Socials. Keep the plan that God laid out for you, and your role in this church, dear to your heart. You are more important to making this calling a reality than you could imagine.

Our next Interest Social will be Sunday, June 15 from 5p-7p at the Lake Parker Park at 910 E Granada Street. This is fathers day, and we will be honoring dads. We will have some door prizes for some dads too. It is free food, and a great time to bring your kids out to play while we break bread together and get to know new friends. So I ask that you all continue to do anything you can to grow this church. Give money to help us make these events the best they can be. Invite people and families out so they can get to know us and this church God is building. Find the area of this church that you feel God is leading you to be involved in, and let me know, so we can help you find the role to serve in.

This is your church. You are important, not just to God, but me as well. It is so humbling to serve along side you all. Thanks for being my ministry partners….thanks for being my friend. Lets keep changing family trees.

peace – love – recycle
